My Pet is Having Surgery

If your pet is scheduled for surgery with Dr. Burns, please fill out the online form prior to surgery.  Please ensure we have the best contact information for the day of surgery.

• All veterinarians may perform surgery as part of their veterinary practice. Board-certified surgeons receive at least 4 additional years of specialized training in surgery specifically.  

• If the doctor operating your pet does not have the letters DACVS or DACVS-SA, they are not a surgeon.

• The American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) offers an online directory that lists all board-certified surgeons. This is a great way to make sure that your "surgeon" truly has the credentials claimed.

Dr. Colby Burns is a native Floridian. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida.  Dr. Burns continued her education with a 1-year rotating internship at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine and a 3-year surgical residency at The Ohio State University.  

After completing her residency in 2010, Dr. Burns moved back to the great state of Florida.  Dr. Burns has been providing mobile surgical services to veterinarian across the Tampa area since 2013.  Dr. Burns has extensive experience in surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation and is only one of 2 active double-board certified specialist in small animal surgery (DACVS-SA) and canine sports medicine and rehabilitation (DACVSMR) in the entire state of Florida.    

She is currently the only board- certified surgeon, in the Tampa and surrounding area, offering advanced surgical services (TPLO, fracture repair, cancerous mass removal, ect.) to veterinarians on a mobile basis in their clinic.  

Dr. Burns is a mother of two amazing little girls.  Her furry family consists of 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 1 hamster and 5 chickens.
